Origin:
Janine Ziegler, the one and only Quick-Me-Up, is a mutant. Born with powerful mutations which allow her to greatly enhance the abilities of others, she has proven incredibly popular amongst other adventurers, though her powers can't be used to bolster her own capabilities at all.
Known Powers:
Amplification: Janine's primary ability is her power to bolster the abilities of others. She can boost one of another's traits with rank value 50 skill, raising them to this rank value or by +1 RS. This boost lasts for as long as she focuses on doing so, or for 1d10 turns.
After boosting an individual's traits with this power, Janine must wait an hour before doing so again, lest her power will lose 1 RS of effective enhancement each time she bypasses this cooldown. This limit applies per person, so she can bolster multiple individuals at a time.
Healing / Others: supplementing her amplification, Janine can also stitch others up when they've found themselves injured. She can heal with rank value 30 ability, recovering a like amount of lost Health points in a flash, stitching up wounds and repairing dead tissue.
Like her amplification, however, Janine's healing is time-gated. She can only heal a given individual once within a twenty-four hour period. Any further healing costs the target of this power 1 RS of Fortitude, a metabolic overload they'll have to recover from in the normal fashion.
Limitations / Enhancements:
(none)
Equipment:
Colt 1911A1: having no offensive powers to speak of, Janine typically carries this weapon with her while on the job. She can discharge a single round from this weapon to inflict rank value 6 Piercing damage, or a three-round burst of such to inflict rank value 10 Piercing damage.
First Aid Kit: since part of her job involves patching up people in the field, at least in-between uses of her healing power, Janine carries a first aid kit in her backpack. It includes bandages, pain killers, antibiotics, and numerous ointments and disinfectants to clean wounds.
Smartphone: like most modern adventurers, Janine usually has her phone handy, because she's always looking for her next sidekicking gig. This pocket supercomputer can transmit and receive digital signals with rank value 4 ability, having an idealized transception range of five miles.
Truncheons: because she doesn't always intend to kill others when a fight breaks out, Janine relies on these weapons before drawing her sidearm. Janine carries two of these short metal fighting rods, which she can use to inflict +1 RS Bashing damage in melee combat.
Quirks:
Alertness: working in a support role for other adventurers, Janine has learned to stay on her proverbial toes whenever she's outside her apartment. Highly alert most of the time, she should receive a +2 RS on Awareness ACTIONs called for when determining surprise.
Charmed: on top of her support-based super-powers, Janine is a veritable good luck charm to those in her vicinity. Once per hour, someone allied with Janine will have the order of their percentile dice swapped in their favor, though she has no control over who receives this benefit.
Dependent: Janine works hard to fill her time working as a professional sidekick because she has to take care of her sweet old uncle Bob. His continued care costs a large amount of her personal resources, and the goofy old coot can't help but get himself into trouble now and then.
Dulled Sense / Vision: though she's ostensibly the next stage in human evolution, should one believe various extremists, Janine has rotten vision. She suffers a -2 RS penalty whenever she must attempt a vision-based Awareness ACTIONs should she not have her glasses handy.
Skills:
First Aid: augmenting her healing ability, helping her to set bones and treat wounds before applying her power, Janine is fully trained to provide first aid. It allows her to halt the loss of Fortitude rank values, and to revive folks who have fallen within the last five turns.
Guns: she rarely wields them on the job, but since it does happen Janine spends plenty of time on the range keeping this skill viable. She can fire any standard, semi-automatic, or fully automatic rifle or pistol as if her Coordination was +1 RS higher than is listed above.
Martial Arts style C: saving direct assaults for her truncheons, Janine's unarmed fighting style focuses on holds and escapes. This allows her a +1 RS bonus to whatever trait is called upon when she attempts Dodge, Escape, Grapple, or Weave maneuvers.
Service: whlie she may be figuratively rolling her eyes while bolstering the efforts of some clients, Janine knows how to keep her cool and stay professional when she's on the clock. She should receive a +1 RS bonus on ACTIONs called for when reassuring or mollifying others.
Skill / Truncheons: a lot of the time she isn't working or taking care of her uncle Bob, Janine is maintaining her combat training. Part of this involves sparring with her truncheons, short blunt implements that she can wield as if her Melee was +1 RS in value.
Contacts:
Janine's professional career has earned her a vast array of contacts in adventuring circles. Some of her most reliable employers are members of the Galileian Dispatch, scientific adventurers who delve into the world's mysteries, but plenty of others utilize her services as well.
Costume:
While she's working, Janine wears a similar ensemble form job to job. It includes tan, pocket-laden cargo pants, brown leather boots and belts, a snug T-shirt of varying colors (though most often white), a brown leather holster for her sidearm, and a brown leather backpack.
Personality:
Janine doesn't really like people. While she wishes she had developed powers that would allow her to pursue her own goals, rather than those which support the aims of others, Janine never really bothered to figure out what she'd like to do with her life in the first place.
As it is, she wouldn't indulge her clients if the money wasn't so good. After all, she has to pay off her student loans, not to mention take care of her sweet yet ailing uncle Bob. This overdeveloped sense of responsibility is ultimately what keeps thrusting her into the inexplicable.

Story:
Though she never foresaw herself becoming a cheerleader of sorts, Janine nonetheless found herself doing so after developing several powers which bolster the abilities of others. She's not into the idea, but could nonetheless see the moneymaking potential, so she leaned into it.
After all, the holders of her extensive student loans started calling even before she ultimately dropped out of college, and there was no one else to take care of her poor, ailing uncle Bob. Unfortunately, she initially had a hard time finding clients for the unique services she offers.
Taking what few jobs she could find, Janine got herself in trouble when one of her clients turned out to be a costumed villain. Doing a bit of time thanks to this debacle, Janine exhausted what little savings she had while she was locked up, and was quickly growing desperate.
In a turn of good luck, she was referred to what ultimately became Supernormal Resources by a friend, who in turn introduced her to the Galileian Dispatch. Frequently launching expeditions to study the world's weirder corners, this group often finds itself in need of advanced support.
Though not a member of that band of two-fisted science journalists, Janine is often called upon to back up their science missions. In particular, she most often works with Richard Private, one of the Dispatch's head writers, because the scientists he works with often put him in great peril.
When the agency isn't hooking her up with the Dispatch, though, Janine also works for several other adventuring types. Some of these are costumed heroes, others are researchers with highly esoteric specialties, and still more are regular employers needing a bit of a 'push' forward.
Janine dislikes the more freelance portions of her work, but she sticks with it because she doesn't want to let uncle Bob down. At the same time, she's worked hard for what she's built in her unexpected career, and the last thing she wants is debt collectors coming down on her.
As such, Janine continues to make herself available to various adventurers and scientists as a subordinate, minion, or sidekick, ready to offer a quick pick-me-up to her employer whenever they need it. And they almost never have anything bad to say about her Quick-Me-Ups!
